WHAT WE’LL COVER

INSTRUCTED BY DR. LLOYD

In recent Oklahoma cannabis reform, Governor Kevin Stitt has vetoed SB 437. Senate Bill 437 sought to impose new restrictions on medical cannabis access and impose THC limits upon certain products.

Oklahoma folks got their act together and, with over 56% approval, made sure 342,263 residents had access to medical cannabis in September 2020, according to OMMA. Now, while Oklahoma had to hit pause on a ballot measure for recreational cannabis and some major criminal justice reform, it’s still on track for more medical cannabis provisions sooner rather than later. Americans for Safe Access gave the region a solid B for its program, and by May 2020, the state issued thousands of licenses to dispensaries, growers, and processors, building a strong backbone for patient access.

The usual grind of rolling out medical and recreational marijuana programs didn’t slow Oklahoma down; they hit the gas once voters approved medical marijuana in June 2018. The Oklahoma State Department of Health, along with OMMA, set up the rules and regulations for the program. Under SQ 788, if you get a medical marijuana license, you’re good to consume and possess up to 3 ounces on your person, 6 mature plants, 6 seedlings, 1 ounce of concentrate, 72 ounces of edibles, and 8 ounces at home. No strict qualifying conditions here; if a reasonable and prudent doctor recommends it, you’re in.
